Competitive sailboat racing at the Grand Lake Yacht Club began in August 1904 with a fleet of three boats. Today more than 55 boats compete each year for a variety of class trophies, including the coveted Lipton Cup, a gift to the club from Sir Thomas Lipton in 1912.

At 8300 feet above sea level, the Grand Lake Yacht Club is considered the highest registered yacht club on a natural lake. Regatta and weekend sailing begin in June and continue thru August. The club house, built in 1912 hosts four generations of members with club events all summer long.

The Grand Lake Yacht Club is a private club available for members and their guest only. The club is not open to the public, does not rent boats or offer sailing participation or lessons without a member sponsor.
