open before you go (click here). Expect this route from Denver to take 45-60 minutes
longer than the route above.

Head out of Denver going north on
Interstate 25.
-
Staying to the left after crossing
Interstate 70 look for the exit 217 to Boulder (Interstate 36
West).

Boulder. The highway will end and turn into 28th street. Take 28th
street all the way through the town of boulder and watch for the
signs for US 36 again.

Continue on 36 west (also known here as
Foothills Highway) to the town of Lyons.

Estes Park is a good place for a
bio-break.

Stay on 36 through Estes Park until you
see signs for Trail Ridge Road or Highway 34. Enter Rocky Mountain
National Park and follow 34 (Trail Ridge Road) through the park.
Be sure to take your camera!
-
It will take a bit more than an hour to
drive through the park, where you will exit the west side. As you
come down the hill from the park you will see the sign for Grand
Lake Village on the left. Turn left into Grand Lake.
-
Once you turn off 34 the road will
naturally take you down into the center of town and will become
Grand Ave.
